Varel was a Romulan military officer in the late 24th century.
In 2368, she served aboard a Romulan science vessel that was secretly testing an interphase cloaking device. When several of the crew died in an explosion, she was Mirok's acting first officer. When an away team from the USS Enterprise-D came to offer assistance, she was particularly concerned about the Starfleet personnel discovering the interphase generator. (TNG: "The Next Phase")
Varel was played by actress Susanna Thompson in her first of four Star Trek appearances.
