This image depicts a shot of the 4-foot model first appearing in TNG Season 3's "The Defector". It had a higher detail of surface texture and indentations than the larger 6-foot model created for TNG Season 1. It also had a slightly different shaped deflector dish. This model represented the Enterprise-D through all the later seasons of TNG (aside from the battle sequence in The Best of Both Worlds, Part II), although numerous older shots of the first model were of course reused intermixed with new footage. This model could not separate, and was retired after TNG ended, although it did appear in DS9 episodes "Emissary" and "The Jem'Hadar" as both the Enterprise and the USS Odyssey (in recycled footage) docked at the station.
