Bull of Heaven is an online repository of experimental audio works. Some of the pieces here are in a nonstandard format, and will not function properly within archive.org's audio player. In order to listen to the multi-part MP3s as intended, you must download each part completely and use a file joiner to stitch the data back together. Some files are too large and thus not yet able to be assembled on any known file system, but the individual part files are playable in some media players and...

The cylinder recordings available here are an online project started in 1998 by Norman Bruderhofer, a phonograph collector and audio preservationist from Germany. Dedicated to the invention and development of the phonograph, the Cylinder Archive serves as a detailed source of information for hobbyists. One component of Bruderhofer's project is a monthly release of a new cylinder recording. The releases are produced by carefully filtering electronic transfers from the original cylinder...

Founded in 1985, the DNA Lounge (Dance Not Art) has provided live music acts as well as DJs and special events to the San Francisco area, and is one of the longer-surviving clubs of its kind. In 1999, the club was purchased by Jamie Zawinski, remodeled extensively, and re-opened in 2001. Since that time, it has hosted thousands of performances, all of which have been broadcast over the web and available for a short time after the event. It was the first of its kind and, years later, the program has expanded its vision to include the music and cultures that encompass the entire African Diaspora. Now known as Afropop Worldwide (APWW), the program is still the standard for both the curious and the connoisseur. This is a collection of music for folk dancing that has long been out of print. Most of it consists of 78RPM transcriptions. Many of the vinyl recordings are actually transcribed from older 78s. From the soulful Macedonian, happy-happy Croatian, to the furious Russian-Ukranian melodies this music makes wonderful listening, but most importantly it demands to be danced. The 78RPM recordings often have a vigor and life unsurpassed by modern recordings. This is because they could not edit them, and...

Welcome to Drone Lab. Since the creation of this page, the music and the motivations behind the music have changed considerably. Drones continue to comprise a large amount of what gets hosted here, but melody and structure find their way into the mix. Loops, textures, more than a little noise... The tunes alternate, generally, between light and dark ambient. That wasn't part of the original plan, but right now it works well enough so we're sticking with it. Explore. Download. Share. Square dances without calls is instrumental music that was made for square dancing. During the square dance boom of the 1950s many musicians were mobilized to form bands and record who would not have been recorded otherwise. Most of these were made when records were still in the 78 rpm format. This collection of recordings can be used for square, round, and contra dancing. Many of them came with call sheets, or cue sheets containing the intended dance instructions. In some cases a vocally...

Formed in 2000, Lady Bombon is a boy and a girl from Mexico City who use samplers, rhythm boxes, keyboards and guitars to make a brilliant and strange new rhythm fusion. Chuchelas (the boy) and Hongo (the girl) blend punk, pop, roc, and electro, inspired by the 80s and 90s sounds they both grew up listening to. Originally, the two made music just for fun, as something that relaxed them, but after they recorded their first demo and gave it to friends, they realized it could be something more...

Lynn was much loved by the British because of her selfless efforts entertaining the troops during WWII. This tune was recorded by Luke Jordan in 1927 as "Cocaine Blues" (not to be confused with "Cocaine Habit Blues" recorded by the Memphis Jug Band). My name is Eduardo Espadas, this collection features algorithmic piano music mixed with sound frequencies. The idea is based upon the principle of resonance. If you strike a tunning fork near a group of forks, which include one attuned in that frequency, the later will vibrate in response.

The fourth release from electronic musician Adhesion. Originally conceived as an attempt at 7 Album-A-Days in 7 days, it quickly degenerated in a mad rush to reach the goal of 140 minutes. The whole project, from start to finish, took 11 days instead of the planned 7. The result is a double album that defies classification, crossing through genres like downtempo, ambient, techno, trance and noise. More info: http://www.evilresidence.com

"Castle House Rag - One Step", performed by Europe's Society Orchestra, recorded "under the personal supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Castle" on February 10, 1914. James Reese Europe was an important musical figure in the ragtime era (his band was the first Black band to record commercially). Vernon and Irene Castle were early popularizers of social dancing to syncopated music. From the original 12" 78rpm disk.

This is the closest we can get to the original performance, it was fresh in the minds of all the performers and was not like any other record ever made afterwards, enjoy this most unique recording and historic audio document. 2 parts
