Four conversions from SFC2 for y'all, including a rarely-seen but often-referenced race, the Orions. These four vessels don't really comprise a fleet all on their own, but they do look pretty good. Gotta respect CanadianBorg for his relentless energy and implacable determination. Thankfully, being a Canadian, he's polite and asks you very nicely if you'd care to be assimilated, then apologizes for his tubules in your neck. Which makes me wonder what kind of hockey team the Canadian Borg would have.... and if they assimilated Don Cherry would they all come out in natty checkered suit jackets? Now THERE'S a terrifying adversary for Starfleet.

Orion Pack by CanadianBorg

This is only my sixth mod, so any advice or pointers are appreciated.

This Orion pack is a set of ships converted from Starfleet Command 2.

This pack is intended to go with my recently released Mercenary Pack mod, which I would recommend you download and install before going any further (you don't have to, but you really should. It would make the ships fit in much better.)

Installation:

Open the archive file and extract the folder "Orions" somewhere outside your A2 directory.

Copy all the folders inside to your root A2 directory.

Now, open gui_global.spr in the "sprites" folder in your A2 main directory with Notepad, and scroll down to the Federation build buttons. Now enter:

b_orcarry gborcarry 0 0 64 64
b_orfight gborfight 0 0 64 64
b_ordest gbordest 0 0 64 64
b_orhcruise gborhcruise 0 0 64 64

below the last item.

NOw go down to special weapon buttons and enter the following:

b_gpoleron2 gbpolrntrp00 0 0 64 64

Now save and close gui_global.spr and go to the techtree folder within the A2 directory with Notepad. Now open tech1.tt. Scroll down to the Federation ships and add:

orcarry.odf 0
orfight.odf 1 orcarry.odf
ordest.odf 0
orhcruise.odf 0

Now scroll down to Federation special weapons. Now enter the following:

gpoleron2.odf 0

Now save and close tech1.tt. Open fulltech.tt with Notepad and enter the following anywhere in the list:

orcarry.odf 0
orfight.odf 0
ordest.odf 0
orhcruise.odf 0
gpoleron2.odf 0

Now save and close the file.

Now you have two options:

Option 1. Go to the odf folder, and go to "stations". Open fbase.odf with Notepad, and enter the following:

buildItemxx = "orcarry"
buildItemxx+1 = "ordest"
buildItemxx+2 = "orhcruise"

Where "xx" is the next number in the list (replace it with this number). If there is a +1 or +2 it just means to add that much to "xx". Do the same with rbase.odf, kbase.odf, and cbase.odf.

Option 2. Go to the odf folder, and go to "stations". Open mercbase.odf with notepad (if you downloaded my Mercenary Pack, you'll have it, otherwise, take option 1),
and enter the following:

buildItemxx = "orcarry"
buildItemxx+1 = "ordest"
buildItemxx+2 = "orhcruise"

Where "xx" is the next number in the list (replace it with this number). If there is a +1 or +2 it just means to add that much to "xx".

That's it! You're ready to use the Orion ships in your game! I might be coming out with more pirate and mercenary ships by the way, so stay tuned!

Sounds like a good idea to me. The galaxy as depicted in TNG on seems far too organized. Where's the plundering? Where's the pillaging? The raids? Where's the fear? About the scariest thing to happen to a planet on Star Trek: TNG was an asteroid almost hitting the planet.. maybe the crystalline entity's attack. Even so the Federation swoops in and saves the day. The fear is gone. We need something that'll leave the Federation in need of rescue... besides the Borg.. and the Dominion.. Er well, even the dominion war was organized. Like the Borg have "assimilated ship" textures you should make special retextures to be used when a ship or station gets taken over by pirates. Make it all rusty and dingy looking with graffiti and a skill and crossbones painted on it.


Anyway, I like the ships. You did a good job porting them.

I've been toying with mercs you can hire out of certain yeards and marauding bands of pirates as map units for a long time now, with an eye towards eventually making them a major player in my personal mod, this will certainly go a long ways!

well that's interesting, I was just thinking of adding a few orion ships to my mod and was not looking fowards to the port from sfc.

If you know which script runs when the borg assimilate a ship, you can probably use that separately for the pirates. But I think it might be hardcoded. It'd be cool of this can be done though. Instead of adding "_b.tga" for Borg textures, you use "_p.tga".


Anyways, I like this port. I haven't played SFC in a long time and I used to love having ships blow up with a huge purple/blue fireball. I'm going to love destroying the Orions all over again...eh?

I think I'm going to be starting an Outlaws full race mod, but I would need people to help me with certain aspects, for example voiceovers and the GUI. Anybody interested should contact me.
