This little package is quite a simple thing, which replaces your stock Federation Freighter with the Federation Data Miner from the Federation Campaign.

Data Miner as Fed Freighter by thunderfoot006. Special appearance by Chiletrek.

I've always disliked the stock Federation Freighter because it is too 'shiny' and lacks detail. I've looked at other ships to replace it but I did not care for them, either. Then I looked at the Data Miner which is very similar and thought it might work. So I tinkered with the odf and copied and renamed the odf and SOD files. Next, I slightly tweaked the texture to give the ship a more 'workman' like appearance. Ore haulers should be a little dirty and banged up. Because the Data Miner and the Mining freighter are very similar, the stock buildbutton and wireframe will work fine with the new model. The odf includes a change in where the mining beams come off the model, because I felt that didn't look right either.
Of course, since the Borg can capture freighters there has to be a Borg texture. This texture will work with both the freighter and the Data Miner.
The Borg texture was significantly improved by Chiletrek, who did the heavy lifting after I kinda screwed it up. Chiletrek was also responsible for announcing, "And Bob's your uncle!" to keep me from dragging this thing out any longer then needed.

Installation instructions:
1) Make back up copies of the original files, in case you do not like this mod.

Potential Problems
This mod has been tested only within the SP Campaign and Instant Action vs. the 'puter. I do not know if it will work in online Multiplayer.
As always, I accept no responsibility for your 'puter or your game. This file was virus checked before upload and A2 Files has a very good rep for good file transfers. If it doesn't work right the first time, you should go back and read the directions. Next, install the mod again AFTER you read the directions.

....so far as I can see, there isn't.... the Data Miner looks exactly the same, textures and all, as the stock miner to me.

Hello:

This is not the same freighter, the Data Miner is a better choice for people that dislikes the stock freighter, besides, this is a good alternative to have in mind.

I like tjhis mod, and I look forward to see more to come :D 10/10

The Stock Fed freighter has the same problem as the stock Fed construction ship, The model itself has a light channel. This is in addition to any light or alpha channel one would include in the textures. Whenever I tried to tweak it to improve the details of the stock texture, all I got was a transparent ship which was 'chrome coloured' and looked strange. I thought about redoing the model, but talking with chiletrek about it convinced me swapping it out for the data miner was simpler and faster than redoing the whole thing from scratch. The Fed freighter was the last stock ship left in my A2 installation. It was past time to fix that :-)
