Sao Magnifico did a series of pics in the Forums Post Your Best Screenshots thread about heightened tensions between Cardassia and the Federation. It got me to thinking as to why the Cardassians would be acting this way. It is canon the end of the war between Cardassia and the Federation did not really tidy everything up like it should have. So here goes.

Cardassian scout patrols on a routine border trace diverted off the regular course to avoid the effects of a large ion storm which was an imminent danger to the crews. Suddenly, the navigational sensors aboard these ships picked up traces of a previously unknown star system which appeared to have a large black hole in it. Dropping out of warp, the scouts began a routine scan of the system. And forgot to breathe. Latinum. In quantities never before seen anywhere. Enough latinum to literally buy the Cardassian Union a warfleet equal in size to all of the other Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers combined. of course the system was conveniently located just outside Cardassian space, as well as Federation and Klingon space as well. But near enough to all three that all three could claim it if they they got there fast enough. So begins the Latinum Rush!

INTRODUCTION

Hello! Thank you for downloading my map! This is my first sortie into map making. I have become interested in making A2 maps lately because I have pretty much played all the ones available that I like. There are a great many maps out there which feature lots and lots of resources. The download counts for them are pretty high. People like these types of maps, obviously. I thought, "Who am I to go against such a successful trend?" Chief_Chainsaw was asking if anyone had any really large maps in the Forums as well. Hmmm. Lots of resources. Large maps. Add in a few patented "thunderfoot-views-the-world-sideways" twists, and - TA DA! I hope you like this one. If you do, I'll make some more maps. If you do not, please tell me what you do not like and I will try to make the next one better.

//***********************************************
CREDITS Everyone you need to know about so you know whom to blame!

Gene Roddenberry - for giving us such a cool place to play.
Chiletrek - for never being so busy he cannot answer a question or ten. Also for being an outstanding role model to follow.
Sao Magnifico - For the neat little story about border tensions between Cardassia and the Federation. I got to thinking about why the Cardies would be so provocative and this map sorta happened.
thunderfoot006(me) - for everything in here. This time, I cannot hide behind anyone else, lol.
YOU, for downloading this mod.

CONTENTS:

1) A ReadMe, which of course no one will bother reading.
2) Installation Instructions. These are provided for you to read AFTER you place this material ingame.
They will allow you to quickly and precisely pin point any errors you made during installation and tell you how to repair them.
3) A complete set of files for the Latinum Rush map.

MAP BACK STORY:

Sao Magnifico did a series of pics in the Forums Post Your Best Screenshots thread about heightened tensions between Cardassia and the Federation. WHAT THIS MOD IS

A patch which contains everything needed to the four player map Latinum Rush. It is set up for multiplayer, I think. but since I have not tested it in Multi, I am unsure.

//***********************************************
WHAT THIS MOD IS NOT

Tested for compatability with either FLOPs or PP 1.2.5. My laptop cannot play FLOPs so I saw no sense in trying to test this patch with these. I cannot answer ANY questions concerning this patch and FLOPs or PP 1.2.5 because I cannot use them together. I make mods for ST:A2 with the 1.1 Patch applied because I think this version of the game is still played or modded most often. If you want to try this patch with FLOPs or PP1.2.5 you do so with the prior understanding that I cannot help you with, nor be held accountable or responsible for, any problems which arise from combining or using this patch with either of them.

The screenshots are from my personal install which has MU v2.0 installed but I tried very very hard to ensure I put nothing into the map which is specific to Yacuzza's brilliant piece of work.

If the above statements mean you now dislike this mod, I am okay with this. I made this mod for me in the first place.

//***********************************************
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

This patch has not been tested for compatability with either PP1.2.5 or FLOPs. My laptop cannot play FLOPs so I saw little sense in checking this. I have Yacuzza s Tactical Assault and Achilles Art of War installed. I haven t yet run across any problems with either of these but I did not really push either install to the limits of the game engine either.

I tried to make the map as friendly as possible to both the Borg and Species 8472. A Borg player may very well have a difficult time playing this map because it is all about the latinum.

This patch has been tested only against Instant Action vs. my laptop. I do not know if it will work in online Multiplayer. I accept no responsibility for your computer, disc, or application. This patch was checked for viruses and completeness before upload. If it does not work correctly the first time, please go back and read the Installation Instructions. Then, install the mod again AFTER you read the Installation Instructions.

FG, this map came about because I got a burr under my saddle about Sao's Cardassian provocations. I have looked at your screenshots (they RRock BTW!) and I have a few ideas from your pics written down. However, they did not leap off the pages of my notebook at me. Like this one. This sprang up full blown from my mind this morning at 04:30 AM CDT. By 06:45 AM, I was writing the ReadMe and play testing. This is my first map. I wanted to try out a few new things in a small way. A lot of these fall into the category of "Not Done This Way At All." Until now.

Well, I must say I'm flattered, but I'm not quite sure which screenshots you're referring to! I know FG has done a number of series depicting border tensions between the UFP and Cardassia... :-)

The map looks excellent. I like the Warcraft planet names, too.
