This item contains the assessments I produced during my time as an undergraduate student at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. I studied in the Computing Science Department from 2009 to 2014 and graduated with an MSci in Computing Science (with Industrial Placement) with First Class Honours. Materials are organised by course code, but are not organised beyond that. Some code may exist in source and binary form, others only in source form. Nothing has been recompiled since the time I...

An extreme environment is by definition one with a depauperate biota. While the Ross Desert is by no means homogeneous, the most exposed and arid habitats, soils in the unglaciated high valleys, do indeed contain a very sparse biota of low diversity. So sparse that the natives could easily be outnumbered by airborne exogenous microbes. Native biota must be capable of overwintering as well as growing in the high valley summer. Tourists may undergo a few divisions before contributing their...

The singular nature of the crack tip stress field in a nonhomogeneous medium with a shear modulus with a discontinuous derivative was investigated. The simplest possible loading and geometry, the antiplane shear loading of two bonded half spaces in which the crack is perpendicular to the interface is considered. It is shown that the square root singularity of the crack tip stress field is unaffected by the discontinuity in the derivative of the shear modulus. The problem is solved for a finite...

Significant accomplishments generated are summarized. Testing of closed cell foams, which has resulted in the characterization of compositions which produce rigid foams for use in galley structure applications is reported. It is shown that the density, compressive strength and shear strength of the foams are directly related to the concentrations of the microballoons. The same properties are also directly related to the resin loading. Prototype samples of rigid closed cell foams meeting the...

It is shown that all high modulus carbon fibers are durable with respect to thermal oxidation in air. Among the more widely used and economical materials with low modulus, Celion displays particularly good oxidative durability at high temperatures. This contrast to other materials is due to the low content of Natrium and Kalium in Celion carbon fibers. It is also noted that improved characteristics are attained in Celion carbon fiber/polyimide systems when fibers are used with high temperature...
